POLL: Jason Varitek Pulling Ahead As Most Worthy Of Retired Sox Number

Continued voting in our latest FenwayNation Poll shows that Jason Varitek is beginning to pull away from the field as the most worthy player to have his uniform number as the next to be retired on the right-field facade at Fenway Park. As the chart shows, 'Tek now garners 30% of the vote—followed by Roger Clemens in second-place, getting 16% of reader support. Next on the list is Dwight Evans at 13%, followed by Tony Conigliaro at 12% and Tim Wakefield at 7%. The next tier of players are: Nomar Garciaparra and Manny Ramirez—each at 3%, and Fred Lynn at 2%. Interestingly, 3% say other players who are not specified in the poll are deserving of the honor. Also, a surprising 10% of our readers say that none of the players in the poll should be the next retired Red Sox number. You can still vote in the poll HERE.
