Red Sox Go Up 3-1 In ALCS, Nab 4.5-Hour Classic Thriller From Houston, 8-6

Andrew Benintendi dove to make a spectacular game-ending catch, and Red Sox broadcaster Joe Castiglione fell out of his chair in excitement. Those will be the two lasting images of Wednesday's thrilling 8-6 epic win by the Red Sox—moving them within one victory of another berth in the World Series. But there were so many other images in this classic playoff tilt. The see-saw battle was filled with amazing defensive plays, a controversial interference call that brought back a game-tying home run, another laser-beam outfield assist by Mookie Betts, another go-ahead home run by Jackie Bradley, Jr., and another great relief performance by Ryan Brasier. And, we're leaving a bunch of stuff out! Easily forgotten are: a two-out double by Christian Vazquez to set-up JBJ's latest heroics in the sixth inning; Rafael Devers' two-out single in the first inning to plate the first two runs of the game; Xander Bogaerts' third-inning double to make the score 3-1; walks by Steve Pearce and Brock Holt resulting in a key seventh-inning "add-on" run; J.D. Martinez's RBI single in the eighth inning. This one was a true classic—despite the fact that nobody under the age of 18 probably saw it. So now, Boston stands one win away from returning to the World Series for the first time since their 2013 championship year.
