With the 26th overall pick in the
2018 MLB Draft, Boston selected third baseman/first baseman
Triston Casas out of American Heritage School near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The 6'4", 238-pound Casas has committed to the University of Miami, so while it's likely he will sign with the Red Sox—it's
not a 100% certainty. The lefty-hitting Casas is rated as one of the top high school bats in the entire country—and was slated to go as high as #13 to the Marlins. This could turn out to be a high-value pick at #26, as Casas has the potential of becoming a franchise-type player. In an interview after the selection, Casas' father stated that the Red Sox were his son's "dream team".
