For one brief, shining moment
Sandy Leon became the player he was in 2016. The Sox catcher laced an opposite-field shot over third base that plated the winning run in
a 4-3 comeback Boston victory. The desperately-needed win (which saw Boston trailing 3-0) salvaged another solid starting pitching performance by
Rick Porcello—who went 7.2 strong innings, giving up three earned runs. The offense was also paced by a 4-4 performance by
J.D. Martinez—who knocked in two runs and is now hitting .330.
Craig Kimbrel got four outs for his first win of the year. Tampa's eight-game winning streak was stopped and Boston avoided being swept in a series for the first time in 2018. Bring on the Royals.
