Hail The 13th Anniversary Of The Busted Bambino Curse!

Thirteen years ago tonight, Édgar Rentería (who would join the Red Sox the very next season) grounded out to Keith Foulke for the final out of the 2004 World Series. With that, Boston snared its first World Series championship in eighty-six years and "broke" the mythical 'Curse of the Bambino'. Looking back, it's hard to underestimate the improbability of it all—after being down 3-0 in the ALCS to The Bronx Embalmers. But it did happen, and those players changed the "mojo" of the franchise forever. We now expect to win. Before 2004, we were resigned to painfully losing. It doesn't get much more transformational than that. So, sometime tonight—maybe during Game Three of the current World Series—think back to that magical night and remember how it felt. (Getty Images)
