Red Sox Take 2017 Season Opener From Pirates, 5-3

Andrew Benintendi clouted a three-run HR into the visitor's bullpen and Rick Porcello went 6 1/3 pretty solid innings as the Red Sox took the season opener from Pittsburgh, 5-3. Xander Bogaerts and Sandy Leon had two hits apiece, while Jackie Bradley, Jr. laced a two-out triple that ignited a five-run uprising in the 5th inning against Bucs ace Gerrit Cole. The Boston bullpen delivered 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief—with Craig Kimbrel getting the save (despite a lead-off double in the 9th). The Red Sox get a day off tomorrow and take on Pittsburgh again on Wednesday night at 7:05 when Chris Sale makes his Boston debut.
