Red Sox Sign OF Justin Maxwell To Minor League Deal
Well, this should send the Rusney Castillo trade rumors spinning again. Today, the Red Sox signed 32-year-old outfielder Justin Maxwell to a minor league contract. Maxwell will report to AAA Pawtucket as outfield "depth". Drafted out of The University of Maryland, College Park, Maxwell has played for four different teams over his seven-year career. Back in 2012, he clouted 18 home runs for the Astros in 124 games. He holds a lifetime batting average of .220. He played last season for the San Francisco Giants and was recently released by the Miami Marlins—after signing a minor-league deal with an invite to Spring Training.
