MLB 'Urging' Teams To Extend Protective Fan Netting

In what amounts to a mandate from Commissioner Rob Manfred, Major League Baseball issued "recommendations" to all 30 clubs that they extend protective netting (or other devices) between the "near ends" of both dugouts and home plate. The Red Sox have already said they will make such accommodations. Last June 5th, a shard of a broken bat severely injured a fan sitting behind an on-deck circle at Fenway. It's unclear how season ticket holders in the affected seats are going to feel about these new rules—despite the fact that the team claims to be "pro-actively" reaching out to them.
