Alvarez (L); Chisenhall (R) |
The players mentioned as
potential 3B substitutes for failing to sign Pablo Sandolval are less than inspiring. The two fall-back trade targets most often mentioned are Pittsburgh's
Pedro Alvarez and Cleveland's
Lonnie Chisenhall.
Huh? Holy Disappointing, Batman! Alvarez is one of those "can't miss" prospects who has been pretty much
"hit or miss" in his career so far. The 28-year old
has led the NL in HRs
and made the All-Star team (2013)—but he committed
25 errors in 2014 (24 on throws!). He gets the same talk as
Will Middlebrooks—you know, "you can't find that kind of power"....Yadda, Yadda, Yadda. Chisenhall, 26, hit .280 in 2014, with 13 HRs and 59 RBIs. OK, but boring. We would
much prefer to go after
Hanley Ramirez—at least he's problematic
and big-time productive.
