Rusney Castillo |
The Red Sox are in need of a splash—a
big splash. The 2014 season is a train wreck, and the natives of
Red Sox Nation are getting restless. One way the team can recoup
some degree of dignity
is to go all out to sign the latest international free agent—Rusney Castillo. The 5'8" dynamo center-fielder will be scooped up by
somebody as early as next week. Boston's
primary competition is—of course—the Empire.
The Evil Ones plan to overwhelm Castillo with cash and play him immediately at
second base. The Red Sox have missed out on a few international free agents in the recent past—they miscalculated how long
Masahiro Tanaka would stay in Japan and they fell $5 million short on the bidding for
Jose Abreu. And, of course, they had to give up
Jon Lester to get
Yoenis Cespedes long after he fled from
Fidel Castro's Prison Island. Word is that
Ben Cherington is highly-focused on Castillo and is willing to do everything in his power to get him to Fenway. The 27-year old will likely require in the vicinity of seven years and $42 million. Get him!
