On First Snowy Day In Hub, Sox Hire "Nieves"

Juan Nieves
You can't make this stuff up, folks. On the very day that the first snow flies in the Boston air, the Red Sox have hired Juan Nieves (translation: snow) as their new pitching coach. Nieves was picked over Farrell's choice of Rick Peterson. But, as we noted in our first story on Peterson, he is somewhat controversial in his techniques. Nieves has spent the last five years as the White Sox bullpen coach. It's unclear whether this will evolve into the kind of "manager's choice" controversy we saw with Bobby Valentine and his coaching staff.
