Red Sox Are In 'Waiting Game' On Kimbrel, But How Long Will They Wait?

Multiple reports indicate that the Red Sox—despite earlier statements—are still in on free-agent closer Craig Kimbrel. While they will not pay the exorbitant 6-year, $100 million initial asking price—they might just wait things out until Kimbrel's market dives down to a more reasonable level. In fact, Boston has made only marginal bullpen moves this offseason (Zach Putnam and Erasmo Ramirez)—but the reliever market is now beginning to really heat up. Both Joakim Soria and Andrew Miller signed elsewhere yesterday, so Dave Dombrowski's patience may be wearing thin on Kimbrel. Our feeling is that—despite his flaws—Kimbrel remains the best closer on the market. If he can be coaxed into to staying with the World Series Champions for three or four years (instead of six), a deal might just get done. Stay tuned!
