Red Sox Ace Chris Sale Not Expected to Need Shoulder Surgery In Offseason

Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski uttered some words yesterday that are music to every fan's ears regarding pitching ace Chris Sale: "We anticipate him to come to spring training and be 100 percent. And at this point, without any surgical procedures. We think everything that will take care of it is just rest." Of course, the key word here is "anticipate"—shoulder issues can be notoriously iffy (as we saw with Sale's limited participation in the postseason). Manager Alex Cora also had this take on Sale: "Joking with Chris the other day, we had some get together, I said, ‘You might pitch, your first spring training start might be March 20 and the season starts March 27. So, we’ll talk about it. (Red Sox Trainer) knows we have to really take care of this guy, not only because of the month, the way we did it. We were very aggressive with them." Stay tuned.
