Rodney (L); Dozier (R) |
Multiple reports suggest that the Red Sox are engaged in trade discussions with the Minnesota Twins (who visit Fenway Park tonight) that could bring both IF
Brian Dozier and RP
Fernando Rodney to Boston. This transaction would basically solve the two remaining problems on the 2018 team: 1.) the hole at 2B left by the lingering injury to
Dustin Pedroia and 2.) the set-up role vacuum between middle-relief and
Craig Kimbrel. We have
long been a proponent of Dozier—who, despite having an off-year at the plate—has still clouted 16 HRs and knocked in 51 runs. Over the last two seasons, he launched 42 and 34 HRs, respectively—while hitting around .270. He's also a solid defender at second base. Rodney, we're not so keen on—mostly for his askew cap and arrow-shooting theatrics. But, he
is effective—compiling 21 saves so far this year for the Twinkies. Over his 16-year-career, the 41-year-old Rodney has an astounding 321 saves. Stay tuned!
