Almost exactly five years ago, the Red Sox traded away a young shortstop for a grand total of 30 mediocre games from
Jake Peavy. Frankly, it's hard to believe that
José Iglesias is still just 28 years old. Anyway, last night, Iglesias paid back
The Carmine Hose for their indescretion—going 2-3 with a HR and four RBIs. For their part, the Red Sox played "clog the bases" again—registering 8 hits, but leaving 10 on base in
the eventual 5-0 loss. Only
Mookie Betts (2-5) and
Andrew Benintendi (2-3) had multiple-hit games for Boston.
Brian Johnson's performance (5.0 innings, 2 unearned Rs) was OK, but still highlighted the dire need to
trade for starting pitching at the deadline.
Tyler Thornburg's outing (1.0 innings, 3 ER) kept
The Nation wailing, "Where have you gone,
Travis Shaw?" The loss reduced Boston's lead in the AL East back down to 4.5 games.
