Ultimate Revenge: Evil Ones Could Sign J.D. Martinez

Many of us here in New England—in addition to being Red Sox fans—are also fans of the Patriots. And, because of that, most of us pretty much hate ESPN. Why? Because "The Worldwide Leader" has been on a mission to deny the obvious dynastic run of the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick Era. They were particularly reprehensible during the silly "Deflate-Gate" fiasco. Anyway, now ESPN is claiming that The Evil Empire is one of the potential landing spots for (are you ready? ) J.D. Martinez. Their "theory" is that if Martinez really is 'fed up' with Boston's 'intransigence' on contract negotiations, the ultimate revenge would be to sign with The Bronx Embalmers. The scenario envisioned by ESPN is that The Pinstriped Posers would deal away Brett Gardner and his $11 million contract and sign Martinez to a contract averaging $25 million a year. Believe it or not, that would still keep The Evil Ones at or near the $197 million luxury tax threshold. It's a ludicrous idea, of course—but then again, so is ESPN.
