Former Sox Pitcher Daniel Bard Retires From Baseball

He threw 100+MPH. For three years, he was an elite set-up guy. He was supposed to be the heir apparent to Jonathan Papelbon. Instead, former Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard—ruined by dumb tinkering by the Boston organization—is retiring from baseball. Bard had not appeared in an MLB game in four years—wandering through the bowels of the minors for several organizations. His is a textbook case of how not to manage a talented arm. It should have been a lot better for Bard. What a shame. Nice going, Red Sox!
