Cashman (Photo: Craig Ruttle) |
Brian Cashman continues to think three moves ahead of
Dave Dombrowski. The Yankees
just traded third-baseman Chase Headley and pitcher Bryan Mitchell to the Padres—in return for an "organizational depth" outfielder (
Jabari Blash). The
real reason for the deal is to clear salary space to make yet
another move—likely
acquiring a starting pitcher or a third-baseman (perhaps keeping
Todd Frazier). Clearly, Cashman is playing three- (or maybe four-) dimensional chess, while
Snoozin' Dave is playing checkers (barely).
