Collapse Fever Grips Hub: Sale Pounded In 9-4 Sox Loss

"'Twas the night before Astros and all through the Park, not a Sox fan was happy—in fact, they were stark. Jay runs were hung from the Monster with care, and visions of Chicken And Beer danced in the air."

Chris Sale, the guy we expected to propel our roll through the postseason got hammered by a team that didn't even smell the playoffs. Our lineup—thanks to key injuries—looks like Single A Greenville. No one is pitching and no one is hitting—the result being a 9-4 drubbing by lowly Toronto. There is no good news in this one—even Andrew Benintendi got beat up by foul balls in the box. Sale went just five innings and gave up five earned runs on four HRs—the latter tying a career high. Even the bullpen gave up four runs. Chris Young did go 3-4 with an RBI in place of injured Mookie Betts. The Yankees skulk just three games back with five to play. And the juggernaut Astros will soon be here for four games. It's hard not to think of 2011. (Getty Images)
