Addison Reed |
As
WEEI.com's
John Tomase points out, the main reason
Dave Dombroski chose reliever
Addison Reed to add at the trade deadline was
his experience as a closer. The Red Sox have suffered a lack of effective eighth-inning set-up guys ahead of
Craig Kimbrel, and Reed might just be the answer. For a crappy Mets team, he delivered 19 saves as their closer this season—going 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA. In addition to working the eighth, Reed can "spell" Kimbrel as the
actual closer from time to time—something that could help prevent the second-half slump we saw from Kimbrel a year ago.
