PawSox Restart Talk Of Moving To Downtown Worcester

Proposed New Worcester Stadium
Here they go again! Larry Lucchino and the other owners of the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox are making it known that they are open to moving away from their drab Rhode Island community. After July 1st, the team no longer has a legal "monogamous" relationship with the City of Pawtucket—so it can peddle its wares anywhere else in New England. The prime stalking horse is the City of Worcester—where officials are aggressively pushing a new stadium site in a vacant area of downtown near Kelley Square. The attractive qualities of Worcester are manifold: 1.) it's actually in Massachusetts; 2.) it's relatively easy to reach from Greater Boston (by rail and car); 3.) the city has a strong economic base of medical and educational institutions and 4.) it's not incredibly boring Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Of course, this could just be a ploy by Lucchino to get Rhode Island to cave in on the funding of a new waterfront stadium down there. Stay tuned.
