How Chinese Dissidents Are Emulating Eddie Andelman

Way back in 1978, Don Zimmer was manager of the Boston Red Sox. In the minds of many fans, he was responsible for the inglorious defeat that year at the hands of Bucky F. Dent and The Pinstriped Posers. This vitriol toward Zimmer was expressed on radio talk shows like WHDH's Sunday Night Sports Huddle—headed by the legendary Eddie Andelman. When Zimmer insisted that the show never again mention his name, Andelman relented—giving the manager the "code name" Chiang Kai-shek (then leader of Nationalist China). Word of this Boston-based ploy must have gotten back to dissidents in the People's Republic of China. Apparently, bloggers were making reference to their President Xi Jinping on the WEB as "Winnie The Pooh". The communist government struck back—banning the mythical bear. Folks, you just can't make this stuff up.
