Red Sox 'Renew' Mookie Betts At $950,000 For 2017

According to The Boston Globe's Alex Speier, the Red Sox have renewed the contract of Mookie Betts for $950,000. This represents the second-highest salary ever for a non-arbitration eligible player with more than two years of playing time. The only higher such contract was given to Mike Trout at an even $1 million. Still, this is pretty bad news—since they could not agree on a contract extension for the 2017 season. So, two wicked bad pieces of news on this Thursday—first David Price's looming visit to Dr. Andrews (and possible Tommy John surgery) and now this.
