Lefty Starter Jose Quintana |
If
David Price does goes down for the year, and the Red Sox feel the need to trade for another top-shelf starting pitcher, it would cost them dearly. Rumors out of Chicago suggest that to get
Jose Quintana out of
The Windy City,
it would take some combination of 3B Rafael Devers, 1B/DH Sam Travis and P Jason Groome (likely 'just' two of the three). All three are highly-touted —and their departure to Chicago would basically give the White Sox nearly all of Boston's Top Ten prospects from a year ago (they already got
Yoan Moncada,
Michael Kopech, and
Luis Alexander Basabe in the
Chris Sale trade). Basically, you could tune in
Pale Hose games in five years and see a team full of erstwhile
Carmine Hosers. Given this scenario, it's probably more likely that Boston would go after free agent starters like
Colby Lewis or
Doug Fister.
