The Red Sox are among at least four MLB teams holding private workouts for soon-to-be 23-year-old Cuban 3B Lourdes Gurriel. Because of his age, Gurriel is not considered a restricted international free agent (a pool the Sox have been frozen out of this year), and can sign with any team. Despite the organizational depth at 3B, Boston still might bid on Gurriel—which (as suggested by The Globe's Alex Speier) would further enrich the position for potential prospect trades. Over six seasons in Cuba, Gurriel hit .277, with 27 HRs and 23 SBs. Stay tuned!
