Jays To Hire Cherington As VP Of Baseball Operations

UPDATE: Hiring Official. The Toronto Blue Jays are "on the verge" of signing former Red Sox General manager Ben Cherington as their new Vice President of Baseball Operations. Cherington departed Boston in semi-disgrace—despite delivering a 2013 World Series Championship. Many of the stars of the 2016 Carmine Hose are the responsibility of Cherington (i.e., Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Andrew Benintendi, Hanley Ramirez). Reportedly, the Jays liked Cherington's emphasis on player development—which will be a major part of his new role north of the border. Cherington "cut his teeth" on baseball in Cleveland under the tutelage of current Toronto President Mark Shapiro. We wish Ben the best in his new job!
