Roenis Elias Staking Claim To Fifth Red Sox Starter Spot

Suddenly, the best candidate to secure the fifth spot in the Red Sox rotation is the "other guy" in the Wade Miley trade—Roenis Elias. In four of his last five Pawtucket starts (including last night), the left-handed Elias has given up two runs or less while going at least seven innings. In that span, he has struck out 40 and walked only 8. On Friday, he hurled seven shutout innings in a 5-1 PawSox win. Given the choices, Elias should be inserted into the fifth slot. With Joe Kelly hurt, and neither Clay Buchholz nor Henry Owens showing any reason to have confidence in them, Elias has to be the choice.
