There have been lots of famous "Travis" people over the years—not the least of which is
Travis Bickle of
Taxi Driver fame. His words are forever emblazoned in the minds of cinema-goers everywhere:
"You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?....Well I'm the only one here." Well, the "talk" of Spring Training for the Red Sox is a
pair of Travises—
Travis Shaw and
Sam Travis.
Both are hitting over .500 so far in the
Grapefruit League season, and
both have an OPS over one. Shaw has 8 RBIs, Travis 7. Shaw is a virtual lock to make the 40-man roster going North—while Travis will probably start at AAA Pawtucket instead of his
intended landing spot of AA Portland. All in all, the "Travises" are really putting on a show. But Spring Training can be a long slog—maybe Bickle can give the younger "Travises" some advice:
"The days go on and on... they don't end. All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention, I believe that one should become a person like other people." You said it, Travis!
