You would think the Red Sox are pretty 'full-up' with outfielders. Apparently, that's not the way
Dave Dombrowski sees it. According to
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal,
Boston was one of 13 teams that attended the workout of 32-year old Cuban OF Alexi Bell. The diminutive Bell (5'7", 187 pounds) left Cuba
legally last month and is
not subject to international bonus pool limits (although he would still need a visitor visa to hold private workouts for individual teams). Over the last 15 years, Bell has averaged around .320, and reportedly hit 15 batting practice HRs during his workout in Mexico. Other teams attending were: Arizona, the Dodgers, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Toronto, San Francisco,
The Evil Ones, Miami, St. Louis, Oakland, San Diego and Cincinnati.
