The Moooooooookie Chants have already begun.
Mookie Betts pretty much single-handedly took over
Opening Day at Fenway today—dominating in virtually every phase of the game. First, he robbed
Bryce Harper of a home run by making a leaping catch at the center-field fence. Then, after walking, he stole second, recognized third base was un-manned due to
The Papi Shift, and stole third. He later scored. Then, just to make sure you'd notice, he clocked a three-run HR his next time up. This kid is
for real—and perhaps the most exciting pure athlete on the Red Sox since
Ellis Burks. Other guys participated in
today's 9-4 win over the Nationals (
David Ortiz homered and
Rick Porcello pitched eight strong innings), but this was
Mookie Coming Out Day in Boston. All hail!
