UPDATE: $12M Team Option For 2018
The Red Sox and newly-acquired starter Wade Miley avoided arbitration by agreeing to a three-year, $19.25 million contract. This brings further stability to the rotation—particularly in a guy that may be the best of a mediocre pack of starters. The $6.42 million yearly price-tag is reasonable for the 28-year old left-hander—who has a career record of 38-35 with a 3.79 ERA. This is a solid move by Ben Cherington—but does not absolve him from getting a true number one.
