REPORT: Rays' Concessions Use Unpaid Labor

Indentured Servitude?
An explosive investigative report in the The Tampa Bay Times alleges that some concession workers at Rays games are unpaid laborers from a "ministry" program for homeless people and recovering addicts. The same program provides unpaid concession workers for Tampa Bay Buccaneer games and Tampa Bay Lightening games. The shocking report amounts to the Rays employing indentured servants to sell food to their fans at Tropicana Field. The New Beginnings program says it uses this unpaid "work therapy" in exchange for food and shelter for the workers. Some homeless advocates have called the program "exploitative". All we have to say is: only in Florida!
