Overlooked Transaction Shocker: Wally Gone!

Amidst the flurry of transactions that emanated from Yawkey Way yesterday, one big one was completely overlooked. Apparently, the Red Sox and Wally The Green Monster could not bridge a contractual impasse and the team reportedly released the long-time mascot. While the transaction cannot yet be independently verified, the 17-year old mascot was seen leaving Fenway Park in a despondent mood after cleaning out his locker. A separate rumor then circulated that Paws, the AAA mascot of the Pawtucket Red Sox, was being whisked to Boston by police escort in time for tonight's game. And, Slugger (reportedly a bipedal seal), the AA Portland Sea Dogs mascot, will likely be promoted to AAA. Luckily, there are three mascots in place at the Single A Lowell Spinners—Canaligator, Allie-Gator, and Millie-Gator—so there will be no need to go outside the organization for a AA replacement. None of the mascots was available for comment on this story.
