Former Sox Prospect Kelly To Return To Majors

UPDATE: Great start. Back in late 2010 when the Red Sox traded for "First Baseman For Life" Adrian Gonzalez, they had to pay a pretty big price in prospects. The most notable, of course, was current Cubbie Anthony Rizzo—who is just this year blossoming into the player Boston (and Theo Epstein) always thought he would be. Reymond Fuentes and Eric Patterson were also sent to San Diego to get A-Gon—but the other key prospect was shortstop turned pitcher Casey Kelly. The now-24-year old Kelly struggled in the Padres farm system (and briefly in The Show), then—stop us if you've heard this recently—he needed Tommy John surgery. His rehab process is nearly complete, as he just pitched six innings for AA San Antonio and gave up just one earned run. The word is that he will be back in the major leagues in a few weeks. We wish him the best.
