The Bronx Goop (NESN Photo) |
The grand Yankee tradition of cheating to gain advantage has been bravely upheld by
Michael Pineda—
who used a not-very-well-concealed gob of goop (likely pine tar) on his hand the entire night in a 4-1 win by The Pinstriped Posers. Of course, the way the Red Sox were hitting, it probably wouldn't have mattered if he was completely above-board. Pineda's pitches seemed lathered with a "Flubber"-like substance as they avoided Boston's bats (just four hits all night). About the only highlights came from the previously-struggling
Daniel Nava—who homered and made a dazzling defensive play. One down, eighteen more to go.
