3,000 Locals Grace SI's New Marathon Cover

Sports Illustrated asked local Boston-area residents to show up early last Saturday for a chance to be in the upcoming SI cover photo to celebrate the 118th running of the the BAA Boston Marathon next Monday. More than 3,000 people showed up—including new Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, dozens of runners and a multitude of first responders. TIME magazine describes the photo as a "testament to Boston’s resilient spirit in the aftermath of the bombings at last year’s marathon". The accompanying SI piece states, "The Boston Marathon can’t help but regenerate itself. It will always be new because there’s something about its history and civic fervor, its oddly attractive personal toll, even its most catastrophic moment, that makes converts of us all." As Vice President Joe Biden said, "We own the Finish Line!".
