Buckner Bows Out As Cub Minors Hitting Coach

Bill Buckner And FN's Editor-In-Chief
Former Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner has stepped down as a minor league hitting coach in the Chicago Cubs system. Said Buckner, "Just too much time away. My wife has put up with it for 30-something years." Buckner—a career .289 hitter over 22 seasons—had two stints with Boston. In his five total seasons in Carmine Hose, he hit .279 with 48 HRs and 324 RBI. Thankfully, he was given a riotous standing ovation on his return to Fenway Park. He was a class act his whole time here and we wish him well.
