Jonny Gomes—the only other holdout from the 2013 Band of Bearded Brothers—announced that he will lose his whiskers for the benefit of the
Travis Roy Foundation. Roy played hockey for B.U. in 1995, and—skating his first-ever shift—slid head-first into the boards cracking his fourth and fifth vertebra and leaving him a quadriplegic. The foundation aids people with spinal cord injuries by providing adaptive equipment and raising funds for research. Gomes reportedly has a deal with Philips Norelco as well. It remains to be seen whether peer pressure will force Napoli to also go the clean-shaven route for 2014.
