Sox Looking At Catchers Navarro And Hanigan

Multiple sources are suggesting that—in the wake of the Carlos Ruiz re-signing by the Phillies—the Red Sox have turned their interest to Dioner Navarro as a possible replacement for Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Navarro—who will turn 30 next February 9th—had a very good year with the Cubbbies in 2013. Although he played in just 89 games, he did hit .300 with 13 HRs and a .365 OBP. Navarro caught 26% of runners trying to steal—a tad below the league average of 28%. Reportedly, the Red Sox are also interested in trading for Andover High School grad and current Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan. These might be good stop-gap moves—considering that Boston has a bevy of backstops in the prospect pipeline (Dan Butler, Christian Vasquez, Blake Swihart).
