Surprisingly, Evil Empire Re-Signs Joe Girardi

Contrary to earlier reports (including here), the New York Yankees have re-signed their manager, Joe Girardi, to a four-year contract extension through the 2017 season. Speculation was rampant that the multiple managerial openings (most notably the Chicago Cubs position) would entice Girardi out of the Bronx. The 48-year old Illinois native has guided the Yankees to the best record in baseball since 2008. However, this year, the 85-win team missed the playoffs for the second time during his tenure. There has been clear tension between Girardi and various elements of the team's hierarchy.
