Ex-Sox 1B Mauro Gomez Released By Blue Jays

You might remember him as a guy with a lot of power potential—potential being the operative word. The Toronto Blue Jays designated for assignment former Red Sox first baseman Mauro Gomez yesterday. Gomez played 37 games in last year's debacle, hitting .275 with a couple of dingers. Boston signed Gomez in February of 2012 as a free agent. He had previously been in the Texas and Atlanta organizations.
