Ellsbury Is Still Not Doing 'Baseball Activities'

The 'Pollyanna' attitude of Red Sox management that insisted injured center-fielder Jacoby Ellsbury would return before the end of the season is starting to unravel. In an interview with WEEI radio yesterday, Manager John Farrell revealed that Ellsbury has not yet moved on to baseball acitivites—with just 11 games to go in the regular season. So no running, no swinging a bat—nothing but bootage. Nevertheless, Farrel continues to cruise up an Egyptian river, "It’s really time right now that is the main element to heal that slight fracture as best as possible. We know we’re up against the clock here a little bit, but we’re still hopeful that he’s going to return to us in the regular season." Stop us if you've heard this sad lament before surrounding Ellsbury. If he does end up bolting Boston for greener pastures, a lot of it might be due to the serial mishandling of his medical issues by the Red Sox.
