The
Associated Press is reporting that
MLB umpire Brian Runge was dismissed "for what was believed to be the first known drug ouster among umps". Runge was let go in mid-June but no reason was given by MLB at the time. The report claims that after failing one drug test, Runge was given a second chance and then failed again. AAA umpire
Chris Conroy was promoted to the bigs to replace Runge. Runge is part of the only three-generation umpiring family—along with his grandfather
Ed Runge and his father
Paul Runge.
