Indians Offered Victorino More Cash Than Sox

As ludicrous as it was for the Red Sox to offer 32-year old Shane Victorino $13 million a year, the Cleveland Indians actually offered him more guaranteed money. The Tribe offered the "Flyin' Hawaiian" a four-year, $44 million dollar pact. Victorino took the better average annual salary and—let's be honest here—the better city. Understandable. It's amazing to us that most of the national sports media sees these Red Sox moves as a return to the "grinding at-bats" of past Sox teams. Maybe. But, maybe it's just a collection of old guys who will be overpaid under-performers. If we're being handed Bridge Year Number Four, at least have the decency to tell us that.
