'Cold Oatmeal' Season Ends Drubbed By Empire

Bobby Valentine famously described his Seattle confab with John Henry as characterized by "cold oatmeal" and overcooked ham. You couldn't find a better metaphor for this dismal 2012 season. On the final day, the Red Sox were humiliated yet again by their Gotham rivals—eviscerated 14-2 in the last start of the Daisuke Matsuzaka Era. Dice-K went 2 1/3—giving up 5 runs on six hits (exactly as predicted by the psychic Jon Metaparel of WEEI one day earlier). Valentine will be gone by Noon Friday—or sooner, and the rebuilding process will begin in earnest. Not a second too soon.
