Red Sox Send Kelly Shoppach To Metropolitans

Shoppach Now A Met
This afternoon, the Red Sox traded catcher Kelly Shoppach to the New York Mets for a player to be named later. Shoppach was in his second service stint with the Carmine Hose—who originally drafted him in the second round of the 2001 amateur draft. Shoppach hit lefties extremely well this year, and the Red Sox record in games he caught was significantly better than it was in games caught by Salty. Nevertheless, the move makes a clear path for Ryan Lavarnway to be the primary back-up.
