Gonzalez Vows Home Run In Thursday's Game

Is A-Gon Following In Babe's Footsteps?
It's not exactly analogous to The Babe promising the sick kid that he'll hit a home run for him (see photo). But it's close. Adrian Gonzalez—visibly frustrated with what he believes is poor umpiring of late—has promised to hit a home run in Thursday's game against the Rays. Gonzo—nicknamed "The Piñata Killer" by David Ortiz—has been in a power slump this year (only 2 HRs) and seems frustrated by his lack of production. Last night, in two key spots, he was unable to come through with a big hit—which prompted his tirade against bad umping and his pledge to 'go yard'. Honestly, this show of emotion is refreshing from the even-keeled first baseman, and might be just what he needs to go on an offensive tear.
