Former Red Sox inflielder
Jed Lowrie avoided arbitration and agreed to a $1.15 million, one-year deal with the Houston Astros. Lowrie, who was part of the deal that sent reliever Mark Melancon to Boston, spent four seasons witht he Red Sox, hitting .252, with a .324 OBP. Lowrie had a series of injury problems over his career, never playing more than 88 games in any one season. The Stanford graduate was a credit to the Boston uniform in his stay here and we wish him well.
