We
used to actually like
Alex Bregman. At 24, he's the kind of intense and talented young player that baseball
needs. Then,
he went and did some thing really dumb. He posted an
Instagram video of himself and his teammates going back-to-back-to-back "yard" against today's
ALCS Game Three starter
Nathan Eovaldi—when the righty was pitching for the Rays. Bregman is
way too smart to
not know that this would be a problem—let alone potential bulletin-board material for the Red Sox. Bregman's manager
A.J. Hinch sort of 'pooh-poohed' the incident, stating the following,
"Welcome to the current generation. Obviously there’s fun banter. We want guys to have their personalities, have their fun. Then go out and back it up." Red Sox manager
Alex Cora gave the exact
correct response (while not-so-subtly re-trolling
Pinstriped Poser Aaron Judge in the process),
"We didn’t know about Judge and we don’t know about Alex. If you need motivation in Game 3 of the ALCS, you better check yourself." Exactly. Eovaldi seemed properly focused as well,
"I’ve got to go out there and pitch my game tomorrow and I can’t have any distractions." Hey, get
between the lines, Bregman, and get
off-line.
