How the 2018 Red Sox can be shut down by what is (
now, at least) a mediocre starter is mind-boggling. That's exactly what happened on Sunday as
James Shields (who Boston beat
twice a decade ago in the ALCS) limited
The Carmine Hose to four hits over six innings in
an embarrassing 8-0 shutout loss to Chicago. Boston starter
Brian Johnson was
horrible—lasting just 1.1 innings and coughing up four earned runs. You have to start wondering if
starting pitching will be the post-season Achilles Heel for this team. The Red Sox supposed "offense" was mostly
Xander Bogaerts—who got two of the team's five total hits. Luckily,
The Bronx Embalmers fell to the lowly Tabbys in the Bronx—so the lead in the American League East stays at 7.5 games.
